The Portfolio Cost Analyzer is a computer program which helps you predict and analyze costs for an entire portfolio of patents and patent applications. A patent family can include any number of countries. A patent family can include applications via the PCT and the EPO.

For each country in each patent family, costs are projected for each stage based on particular attributes of the patent (e.g., number of claims). These costs include Official fees and local Associate charges. The costs include maintenance costs (annuities). The numbers used in the calculations are those included in the software program Global IP Estimator, a well-known program which calculates costs for a single patent family. For additional information about Global IP Estimator, click here.

In addition, for each country in each patent family, dates are projected for when each stage will occur. These dates are calculated with logic similar to that found in the Timeline Module of Global IP Estimator.

A patent family is further categorized by Group. For example, the Technology Group, and/or the Company Division, and/or the Patent Manager may be specified for each patent family. The Portfolio Analysis may be performed across any selected group, and any combination of groups. The analysis provides costs totaled by year, by quarter or by month, for any given range of dates.

Patent Pending: A patent has been filed with the USPTO for key elements of this system.
